I, like many othes, am a student attempting to trudge through work and school in the hopes of aspiring to an ever-elusive thing called "greatness". I am working toward an associates degree, followed by a B.A. of English. I plan to go on to law school where I will study constitutional and/or public interest law. I have a mild "hero complex" that incites me to be a protector of all who are weak and trodden-on. I am fiercely loyal to my friends and family members and will not hesitate to protect them. I am generally mild-tempered but I occasionaly leak the temper that I have inherited from my crazy Mexican family. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES CROSS LOPEZ WOMEN! Anyway, I don't know how I will pay for law school but I hope to receive scholarships and make up the rest of the fees with a student loan. I live on my own and do not receive any help from my parents (as they are in no position to do so) but while it is difficult and somewhat stressful, I really do enjoy my independence...the knowledge that I work for myself and lean on no one is immensly gratifying and, quite frankly makes me proud that I have done this at a young age. Also, I revel in doing things that are typically a "man's job". To all chivalrists: I bite my thumb at you!!! I've worked as an Escrow assistant at a title company for three and a half years, which has proven to be a perfect pain in the ass. I'm kind of spacy sometimes. Having grown up with three loud younger siblings, I've acquired an enhanced ability to tune out unwanted noise. Unfortunately, I have become so good at it that I often tune out unintenttionally. I also have a poor memory (courtesy of my mother). My first great love is music. Music sways me like nothing else can and I feel that when it is genuine, uncompromised by the artist's idea of what the public will WANT to hear, it is an incredible extension of the artist themselves. In a world in which we do not truly connect to other people (rather we merely keep eachother company), music and all forms of virginal art are man's greatest hope for reaching out to one another. I also place a high value on the quality of the lyrics on the songs that have them.
With that said I really relate to the music of Elliott Smith (old) Smashing Pumpkins Iron & Wine The Dresden Dolls, Elvis Perkins, Ryan Adams, Laura Veirs, Death Cab for Cutie, and friends... :)
I enjoy reading although I have to admit I haven't read anything in a few months (except HP and the DH, of course). It's kind of sporadic...I have reading "spells" that span the length of a few months wherein I will do little more than read .
